The Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) is the nation’s largest business gathering and exhibition event. Businesses from across the country and the world exhibited their products and services to create new relationships during ZITF. Although business is the primary target market, the event has been regularly attended by the government along with non-profit organizations from within Zimbabwe and outside the nation. This year the ZITF celebrated its 60th year in existence, with the theme “Propagating Industrial Growth through Trade and Investment.”
The trade fair always takes place in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city. The industrial city has hit hard times along with the rest of the nation as its factories have been hollowed out by an economic meltdown.
“The ZITF period should be a period that the Bulawayo industry shows its potential and growth. They should market themselves and take advantage of all government has put in place for the revival of the city’s industry. They should be visible and participate during the period by exchanging ideas with other local business people and international heads also.” said Industry and Commerce Deputy Minister Raj Modi.
Within the ZITF, there will be multiple business events taking place at the same time. The annual ZITF Golf challenge and the following business events were held:
The Innovators Forum is in its second year. It was aimed squarely at Zimbabwe’s young population with new ideas that could move the nation forward. The multi-day event had presentations, hackathons, and networking opportunities.
The International Business Conference is the executive platform of the ZITF. It is where captains of industry, policymakers, academics, along with international business leaders, discuss and network.
The Manufacturers Breakfast Meeting was held at ZITF in collaboration with the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI). The gathering seeks to discuss practical ideas to help increase production capacity in Zimbabwe.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni officially opened the event. After the business days, the trade fair had its doors to the public.
