Differences Between the 2 Main Coffee Varieties

Arabica and Robusta coffee varieties differ in terms of taste, caffeine level and growing conditions. It is quite important to know the characteristics of each coffee type when choosing what to drink.

 

 

Taste

Arabica coffee beans have a softer taste. This coffee variety is described as having hints of berries, fruits and sugar.

Robusta beans have a stronger taste, with peanutty aftertaste.

Caffeine level

Robusta coffee beans contain twice as much caffeine as Arabica beans. 

Growing conditions

Robusta variety is easier to cultivate and it produces fruit more quickly than Arabica variety. Robusta grows mostrly in Africa and Indonesia. 

Arabica coffee type is harder to grow as it requires lots of moisture, higher elevation and rich soil. This coffee variety is grown dominantly in Latin America.
