Investing Trends for 2022

The geopolitical and sociopolitical events that have shaken the world in recent years will undoubtedly have an impact on the global business environment in 2022. If the trends seemed rather clear at the end of 2021, it now appears that the trends have shifted slightly.

Will the Russia-Ukraine War Drive Investments in 2022?

The war in Ukraine has shaken the whole world. Entire cities have been bombed, as have shopping malls, ports, and factories in a country that exports a large amount of raw materials consumed in countries such as Africa and Asia. In such a situation, it will be critical to rebuild quickly after the war ends. As a result, the construction sector will be very important and will attract a significant amount of foreign direct investment from Europe and around the world, with Russian and Chinese companies likely to be excluded.

This also opens up opportunities for the industries of the countries that supported Ukraine during the crisis. Aside from reconstruction, the energy sector will see significant investment, as the war has served as a reminder of Europe's reliance on Russian gas and oil. As a result, many investments should be made in renewable energy.

Traditional Sectors Are Still Relevant in Investments

Investments will also be made in the medical sector and in the reindustrialization of certain countries. The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed numerous gaps in both Europe and the US's medical sectors. We recall Western countries' reliance on Chinese-made masks, as well as respirator shortages in several hospitals. As a result, it appears obvious that a significant portion of developed countries' investments will be directed toward the medical sector in order to prevent another pandemic from having such heinous consequences. The traditional sectors that have been more popular in recent years will therefore not be overlooked, while cryptocurrency investments will continue to rise in 2022.

Surprises, on the other hand, are not out of the question. If the world has learned anything in recent years, it is that the future is very uncertain and that unforeseen events can throw all of these forecasts off track.
