Huawei wants to expand in Thailand by launching the Digital Power business and investing in 5G, cloud, and local digital talent development. Huawei sees Thailand as a key strategic market that will eventually become ASEAN's digital hub and carbon neutrality leader.
Jay Chen, Vice President of Huawei Asia Pacific, says Thailand was an example of how digital technologies help prevent crises. "The pandemic has shown that its previous strong investment in ICT infrastructure and digital technologies play a critical role in restoring resilience during crisis," said Chen.
Thailand: a Digital Frontrunner in ASEAN
Chen also emphasized that Thailand has gradually emerged as the digital hub for ASEAN.
Firstly, the country has developed the Digital Economy and Society Development Plan, a roadmap to grow the digital economy "Thailand 4.0." Secondly, the Speedtest Global Index 2020 ranks Thailand first among 176 countries regarding fixed broadband Internet speeds.
Moreover, this Southeast Asian nation has also become a global frontrunner in 5G infrastructure construction. It will integrate 5G technologies in agriculture, healthcare, and manufacturing and build a digital ecosystem around it. Finally, Thailand has made rapid progress in cultivating digital talents.
How Huawei Contributes
Huawei aims to train more than 100,000 local talents in using digital tools in the next five years. Abel Deng, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd, said “Huawei Technologies (Thailand) has a long-term mission in social value contributions for Thailand and the company is committed to continuously contribute to the country, as well as to supporting Thai people and businesses."
Since the pandemic outbreak, Huawei has been working with Thai hospitals and partners to present AI-assisted services. Also, Huawei is cooperating with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to pioneer unmanned vehicles for contactless delivery solutions.
"Thailand is a strategic market for Huawei. In order to empower Thailand to become the ASEAN Digital Hub and achieve the country's goal of leading ASEAN in carbon neutrality, we will continuously invest in four domains: 5G, data center & cloud, digital power, and talent development, "said Deng.
